How To Use Social Media To Grow Your Online Business
Let’s start with one basic truth: your online business needs a social media presence to grow. Your business lives online so if you’re not on social media you are at a severe disadvantage. Social media platforms connect you with potential customers, increase your brand awareness, and boost your sales. More than three billion people around the world use social media, most of them daily. Just think about the immense potential this gives your online business!

How To Integrate social media
So you created an Instagram account for your business. That’s great! But you can’t stop there. Simply having a social media profile for your business is not enough. You can’t just hope people will magically flock to your page, you still have to work at it. How do you do that? By being social of course!
Post Daily
If you want to draw the attention of your target audience, they have to see you. To make yourself visible to them you must be active and post content daily. But not just any content will do.
Share Meaningful Content
It’s not enough just to post some type of content every day. What you post needs to be relevant to your audience. This could mean sharing any websites you like online, sharing relevant content from another account, or commenting on someone’s post. Whatever you share, keep it centered around your niche.
The captions you post with your content also matter. If you post something meaningful but don’t caption it, or only post a few words, your audience will not engage with your content. You will gain a lot more engagement from your audience when your caption is longer and has a call to action or question for your audience to answer.
Images Matter
Overall people are more drawn to and engaged with graphics over simple text. Posts with images receive an average of 200% more engagement than posts that are text alone. But you must remember to choose your images wisely.
Images should be easily consumable and convey a simple message quickly. At the same time, however, images need to be impactful and evoke an emotion in your viewers. Studies have shown that heavily liked images on Facebook were bright, clear, lively, and high quality.
If you’re still unsure or uninspired about what images to post on your social media, check out another business in your niche. What works for them? Don’t copy their brand, but it’s ok to learn from your competition.
Engage Authentically
Do not- I repeat DO NOT- use bots to comment on posts! It is so unauthentic and your followers can see right through it. As an entrepreneur, you should be cheering on and helping your fellow business owners by sharing the love. If someone comments on your post, reply to their comment, and return the favor.
How much time should you be spending on social media engagement? A good rule of thumb is the 30/30 rule. Thirty minutes before posting new content, go through your followers, and engage with their most recent post (a post within the last 24 hours). Once you share your new content, repeat this same process. When people see that you have engaged with their content, they are more likely to comment or share yours. It’s a win for both!
Add Social Buttons
Your audience should always know where to find you. You never know who is looking at your pages or what they might want to share with their followers. Adding social buttons to your store items or service offerings is a great way to reach and engage with more potential customers.
No matter what niche your online business is in, social media has to be at the top of your list. Remember that when it comes to social media, it’s always quality over quantity. People can sense phoniness and will turn the other way. Genuinely engage with your audience and you will see a difference. Now, get out there and be social!
