5 Ways to Master Your Social Media Content
As an entrepreneur, you have surely realized the importance of having a strong social media presence for your business. It is no longer an option, but rather a must-have if your business is going to survive and thrive. While most entrepreneurs tackle their social media with good intentions, the truth is that most just aren't doing it in a way that will attract customers and grow their business.
Even if you are familiar with different social media platforms in your personal life, harnessing them for your business is a very different task. Don’t let all of the different social media platforms and algorithms overwhelm or discourage you! Keep reading to learn 5 ways to master your social media content.
1) Tailor content for each social media platform
Posting your social media content is not a “one size fits all” kind of strategy. You can’t just copy and paste the same exact content to your different platforms. Each platform has a different number of characters you’re allowed to use, different image formats/sizes for your posts, and even engage differently with your content.
For Instagram, break your caption into smaller easy-to-digest paragraphs- 1-2 sentences per paragraph. Shorter paragraphs allow readers to easily skim through your post instead of wading through one big section. Another engaging way to break up your caption and add some fun is to sprinkle emojis throughout. Use them sparingly (maximum of 2-3 for longer posts) to add character and a break for your readers’ eyes.
When planning your Instagram posts, rotate between storytelling, sharing advice, asking questions, and sharing resources. This will keep your followers coming back for more. Calls to action, or CTAs, should also be a staple of your Instagram posts. A call to action is the best way to engage your followers. The more you do it, the more people will respond to them.
For your Facebook posts, you should start with something engaging from the very beginning. Starting your post with a call to action will pull your followers in and keep them there for the meat of your post. Just remember, keep your Facebook posts short and sweet.
2) Only post quality content
Strong social media content should obviously be aimed at your target audience. What are they interested in? What do they need help with? What you post should be focused on helping your target audience with specific obstacles.
Don’t flood your post with too many opinions, ideas, or instructions (this hurts your credibility). The content you share should show your audience that you are a valuable resource for information on a topic. Examples of quality content include tips, strategies, or entertainment for your specific topic and audience.
Top-notch content will help turn potential customers into buyers without being too sale-y. Every post should lead your followers further down the sales journey.
3) Create multiple visuals for your content
Did you know that relevant images attract 94% more views than content without relevant visuals? It’s no secret that we live in a visually driven world, so why not capitalize on it?
Photos, gifs, videos, infographics, and images are all different visuals you can use to promote one piece of content. For example, let’s say you just posted a blog on your website that contains four images. That is at least four different images you can share one at a time to promote the same blog post. Repurpose your content to extend the life of your content. This allows you to get your content out there multiple times without repeating yourself (win-win!).
4) Use hashtags
While hashtags used to be cute to add to the end of your social media posts, now they are a very important part of linking your posts with ongoing conversations in the social media world. This turns your posts into searchable content that can reach more followers and potential followers.
However, they don’t work well for every social media platform. Twitter and Instagram are the best platforms to use hashtags on while Facebook and LinkedIn are less likely to yield results.
5) Post your content at the best time for each platform
If you want more followers to see your posts, WHEN you upload your post is just as important as WHAT you post. The level of traffic and visibility your post will get depends on the activity on the platform at the time you post it.
With Twitter, you can expect steady activity throughout the day but other social media platforms have different rush hours. Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook are known for being more active in the afternoon and evening. A quick search can help you determine the best time to post your social media content.
Don’t miss out on using these free marketing tools to grow your business! Take these strategies and tackle one platform. Once you are confident on that platform, expand to another. Use social media to show the world who you are and why you do what you do and they will respond.
