5 Reasons to be on LinkedIn right now

I know what you’re thinking when I mention LinkedIn….

Isn’t it just for finding jobs?

I haven’t updated my profile for years.

It’s just for connecting with old co-workers and people I met at conferences 10 years ago.

Well think again!

  • Hubspot found that LinkedIn is 277% more effective at generating leads than Facebook and Twitter.
  • 79% of marketers see LinkedIn as a very good source of leads, with 43% of marketers saying they have sourced at least one customer from LinkedIn.
  • B2B marketers report that 80% of their social media leads come from LinkedIn.

I know it can seem a bit daunting to add another new channel or platform to your growing list of priorities. But you can start small and get comfortable with it first.

Plus, so much of what you already produce for other social media channels can easily be repurposed for LinkedIn - i.e. a blog post you wrote can become a LinkedIn article and an Instagram quote tile works well for both platforms too.

5 Reasons to Start Existing on LinkedIn

1) Better search results (SEO)

Did you know that Google ranks your LinkedIn profile higher than other websites? If you have an outdated profile, that might be the first thing people see when they search online for you. Are you happy with what they’re seeing?

2) Personal branding

While the vanity metrics of Insta and Facebook (Tik Tok, Snapchat etc. etc.) are important, your personal brand also needs to be carefully managed on LinkedIn because that’s where business opportunities exist too. Ignore this platform and you could be leaving a lot of money on the table.

3) New client opportunities

You might think that your target market doesn’t hang out on LinkedIn. And you might be right. But you might be surprised too; LinkedIn has become much more popular in the last few years (especially 2020), so have a look and start to connect with people. You might also find LinkedIn is a much better opportunity to connect with peers in your industry in a completely different setting.

4) Grow your email list

Like any other platform, LinkedIn offers great opportunities to grow your email list. Having a business page linked to your personal profile enables you to showcase your best content, and include sign ups and free content for people who want to learn more from you. Who doesn’t love a new way to grow their email list?

5) Become an influencer

Sure, ‘LinkedIn influencer’ might not sound as sexy as it does on Instagram, but it’s an opportunity to network and connect with business leaders of all industries. It’s your chance to dominate on another platform and highlight your influence and knowledge.
