Female entrepreneurship is on the rise… and about time!
Women are running their own show more and more, in fact 40% of new entrepreneurs are female, and there are more self-employed and women-owned businesses than ever before.
We are thankfully no longer in the days of women depending on others, including their bosses, for financial stability.
So what’s caused this dramatic shift ?
A Desire to Follow Their Passion
Women are finally having the opportunity to pursue their passion, and turn their dreams into reality. We are more digitally connected than ever before, and we are able to see how others have followed their passion, and we want in on it too!
Many female workers that are stuck in uninspiring and unfulfilling corporate jobs are now able to learn new skills, and gain the confidence, the network and the capabilities to become female entrepreneurs.
Where previously business could only be done in an office, now those in more traditional ‘at home’ roles (e.g. where they are the primary carer for young children) can much more easily turn a kitchen table side hustle into a real business run from their phone.
To Secure the Future
Women are seeing the traditional corporate structures that were once thought to be ‘safe and secure’ come crashing down around us (through financial crises, global recessions etc.)
Job security is an illusion.
One way to feel more in control of the future is to run your own business.
The corporate world often comes with risks where a lot of women (and men) end up losing their jobs due to buyouts, reorganization, and restructuring. Of course, there is also still plenty of discrimination, pay gap issues and non-family friendly working environments, all of which is seeing more women turning to entrepreneurship and living life on their own terms.
With their own business, they get to be in the driver’s seat, adopt control over the business activities and also determine how things should be done.
Build Something for Themselves
It’s safe to say that entrepreneurship has no boundaries. There’s so much to explore, so many paths towards success, and the best part is that you get to build something for yourself.
Female entrepreneurs find it very liberating to be able to create something that they can call their own. Most importantly, it gives them an amazing opportunity to build a name for themselves and advance in life.
Achieve Autonomy and Flexibility
In today’s society, so many women are still the primary caregiver and home-maker in a family environment. This often limits their freedom and decision-making powers in terms of what they want to do in their career.
In such instances, running a business and being your own boss gives women the autonomy and flexibility that cubicle life does not offer.
On top of that, they get to set their own schedule and prioritize things their own way to make time for family, health, leisure, and an overall balanced lifestyle. What’s not to love about it?
Paving the Way Towards Gender Quality
Above everything else, one of the most important reasons why more are women turning to entrepreneurship is to pave the way towards gender equality.
The gender pay gap has been prevalent since forever in this world, and it’s time that female entrepreneurs bring a much-needed revolution in that!
