13 Habits of Successful Entrepreneurs
Congratulations! You took the leap and started your own business. You are finally making your dreams a reality. You are now a businesswoman. But what if you’ve never run your own business before and feel clueless about what to do? What if you’ve tried before and failed at another business venture? It's easy to look at successful entrepreneurs and think they have some big secret to success that you don't.
Successful entrepreneurs are not super-humans, they just possess these habits.
1) Have a set goal
Knowing what you want for your business is the first step in being a successful entrepreneur. Write down your goals and and post them where you will see them frequently. Seeing your goals in black and white will keep you motivated when things get hard.
2) Use a planner
If you’re not a planner person, you need to become one. Commit to using a planner religiously for your business. Get one you like and take it with you everywhere you go. When it’s always with you, you will be more likely to use it. Write your goals in the calendar as another visual reminder of the awesome path you are on.
3) Have a positive mindset
“Whether you think you can or think you can’t...you’re right.” - Henry Ford
Having a positive mindset is how you are going to overcome the struggle and be a successful entrepreneur. You are no longer a “hobby blogger” or a “hobby writer,” you are a businesswoman. In order to succeed, you must first believe you can.
4) Get up and get work done early
It doesn’t matter if you are an early bird or a night owl, your brain works best first thing in the morning. You will be more productive and make fewer errors in your work when you do your work early in the day. You have to make time for your dreams. An added benefit is that it gives you a productive start to your day and ensures that you get your work done before any obstacles get in your way.
5) Prioritize work time
To be productive, you must set aside a specific time to get your work done. Set a schedule and stick to it. For example, if you are a blogger, set aside a block of time to write, a day to work on your email list, a time to work on your social media platforms. Without a game plan, the week may be gone and you haven't accomplished your goals. Put it in your planner and stay on top of your game!
6) Talk about their business like it’s a business, not a hobby
If you talk about your business like it’s a hobby, people will treat it like it’s your hobby. Be proud of your business and give it the respect it (and you) deserves.
7) Get good at learning about their business
People often study years about the field they want to work in. If you’re going to be successful, you must learn to study your niche and learn your field. And the learning doesn’t stop when you have your business up and running. That is just the beginning! If you want to stay on top of your field, the learning never stops.
8) Turn off distractions while working
You may think you can write an amazing blog post while watching tv and talking on the phone to your best friend, but I promise you, you can’t. If you want to be productive and successful, get rid of distractions! Phone, tv, radio, everything should be off. Take yourself to a clean, noise-free environment and get your work done.
9) Set money goals
First, you need to know the bare minimum you need to make to pay your bills, etc. each month. Then, you need to know how much money you would like to make from your business. Knowing where you are and where you want to be money wise is an integral part of being a successful entrepreneur.
10) Study the competition (but not too hard)
You can learn a lot from people who are already successful in your niche. Study them. Learn from them. But do not copy-cat them. It is not a form of flattery in the business world. Look up to them and let them inspire you but be yourself.
11) Don’t hang around people who don’t believe in you
Becoming a successful entrepreneur is hard enough without being surrounded by naysayers who bring you down. Keep yourself surrounded by positive people who believe in you and what you’re doing.
12) Seek advice
One of the best things you can do for yourself is to ask for help and do it often. Don’t be too proud to reach out for help. Sometimes a different perspective from a more experienced person can do wonders for you and your business.
13) Don’t give up
Things will get hard and you will probably feel like throwing in the towel at least once. There will be days where you question yourself and your dream. Don’t do it! Your dreams are possible and you are worth it!
