5 Ways To Grow Your Online Business
Congratulations! You took the leap and started your online business you’ve been dreaming of. Exciting...but scary, right? You’re determined to make it work so you put in crazy hours and work extra hard but you aren’t seeing the results you want. Or maybe you’ve had your online business for a while but your growth has become stagnant. Don’t stress! All businesses struggle sometimes and need a little help. If you need help to grow your online business, check out these 5 quick tips.
1. Have an email list
It doesn't matter what type of business you have, if you do not have an email list you will not survive long term. Social media marketing, Pinterest, and even paid ads work fine but you ultimately have very little control over them. But your email list is completely yours. It is your direct connection to your clients and prospective clients. You don’t have to send an ad out there and hope somebody sees it. You know they will see it because you are sending it directly to them.
Showing up in their inbox regularly will keep you in the front of their mind and make them more likely to remember you three months down the road when they need your type of service. Consistently giving them valuable content in email newsletters will build trust and recognition.
2. Deliver high-quality content
When your audience comes to your site or reads your newsletter they are looking for one thing: information. If all you give them is a bunch of fluff and very little valuable content you are not going to convince them you are a viable candidate for their business. To have your business viewed as a legitimate source of information in your specific niche, stick to facts and material based on evidence. Don’t include any “fake news” in your content.
How your content is delivered is also important. Elements like your site speed and design layout also play a role in delivering high-quality content. Did you know that more than half of people leave a site if it takes more than three seconds to load? That’s why the quality of your site and its site speed is so important. If your design layout is confusing or poorly executed you will lose more than one-third of visitors. If website design is not your forte, it would be worth it to invest in getting some help with your design layout.
3. Integrate social media
Social media is a beautiful thing. Not only is it a very effective way to connect and engage with your target audience, but it’s also free! (who doesn’t love free??) It costs nothing to create a profile on most platforms and that gets your business in front of thousands of potential clients. But you can’t just stop there.
It’s not enough to just have a Facebook profile, you have to “get social” and be active with your audience. Posting consistently, sharing meaningful content, and using quality graphics to engage your audience are all ways you can have an active online presence. Don’t forget to add social buttons to your pages so people can share. You never know who is looking at your pages or when they will want to share your content with their followers.
4. Focus on your target audience
Knowing and focusing on your target audience is a key element to your business success. If you’re trying to target everyone, the less successful you will be. Your target audience influences everything you do from the content you create to the brands you endorse. When you have a specific target audience in mind you can streamline your content, products, and services to those who are more likely to buy it.
Unsure of who your target audience is? Take a peek at your website activity using a free tool like Google Analytics to see who comes to your site and what they look at when they’re there. Another useful tip is to scope out your competition. Knowing what works well for them will help you make your site and business even better.
5. Invest in yourself
You are not only the heart of your company, but you are also the face of it. With the shift from brick and mortar stores to virtual shops, your online presence and persona are so important. Investing in yourself is investing in your business. Take a course to learn how to create engaging content, spend time messaging fans on Facebook, take time to learn more about your niche. Hiring an agency or virtual assistant to take some of the load off of you so you can focus on the most important parts of your business is also an investment in yourself.
Running a business, online or in-person, is tough! It takes time and a lot of effort, but if you persevere and work smarter you can turn your passion into a viable business.
